The total amount of light reaching the film plane (the ‘exposure’) changes with the duration of exposure, aperture of the lens, and on the effective focal length of the lens (which in variable focal length lenses, can force a change in aperture as the lens is zoomed).
Automatic noise reduction is applied as the ISO increases in low light scenes, and this can result in slightly softer images, however this is generally not noticeable in images shared on the web and additionally, can be fixed somewhat in post processing software.
Note: With the introduction of the Multi-Window feature in Android 7.0 (API level 24) and higher, you can no longer assume the aspect ratio of the preview is the same as your activity even after calling setDisplayOrientation() Depending on the window size and aspect ratio, you may may have to fit a wide camera preview into a portrait-orientated layout, or vice versa, using a letterbox layout.
These included 120 film providing 8, 12 or 16 exposures, 220 film providing 16 or 24 exposures, 127 film providing 8 or 12 exposures (principally in Brownie cameras ) and 135 ( 35 mm film ) providing 12, 20 or 36 exposures – or up to 72 exposures in the half-frame format or in bulk cassettes for the Leica Camera range.
One note here: the tele camera on the Note 8 is not nearly as good as the wide angle camera in low light, and depending on where you use it, the phone might decide to just crop the wide-angle camera instead of switching to the tele to give the same effect.
